Our approach

How we build your app

Discovery and planning

We start with a thorough intake: what problem does the app solve, who are the users, what does the MVP need to contain? We translate your idea into a clear scope before writing a single line of code.

Design and prototype

We design the user interface and build a clickable prototype. You experience the app before any code is written and can give feedback early, where changes are cheapest.

Build and publish

We build in two-week rounds with Flutter for iOS and Android. After each round you get a testable version. Once approved, we handle the App Store and Google Play submission for you.

Pricing

What does app development cost?

The cost of an app depends on the complexity, the platform (iOS, Android or both) and the desired features. Key pricing factors:

  • Scope: number of screens, user roles and key flows.
  • Platform: Flutter for both platforms is more efficient than two separate native apps.
  • Backend: does the app need a server-side component, authentication or third-party integrations?
  • Design: pixel-perfect custom UI or building on an existing design system?

Indicative pricing: a simple MVP starts from €10,000. A full app with backend, multiple user roles and integrations quickly reaches €30,000–€60,000+.

Why The Next App

Flutter specialist without outsourcing

We were one of the first agencies in the Netherlands to work seriously with Flutter and have published dozens of Flutter apps since. Our team builds everything in-house, in Rotterdam — no outsourcing, no handoffs.

Flutter compiles to native ARM code and gives access to all device features through platform channels, so the difference from a fully native app is imperceptible in most cases.

  • One codebase for iOS and Android: faster, more cost-efficient
  • Native performance: not a web view, not a hybrid
  • Access to all device features: camera, GPS, push notifications, biometrics
  • After launch: quarterly maintenance advice, no fixed contract

Veelgestelde vragen

Veelgestelde vragen over app development

How much does it cost to develop an app?

A simple MVP starts from €10,000. A fully developed app with backend, multiple user roles and integrations typically ranges from €50,000 to €100,000 or more. The price depends on the number of screens, platform choice, backend complexity and design requirements.

A Flutter app for both iOS and Android is more cost-efficient than two separate native apps. For a full breakdown of pricing factors, see our app development costs guide.

How long does app development take?

Most app projects take between three and six months. A simple app can go live in 2–3 months; a platform with multiple user roles, a backend and integrations takes 4–6 months.

We work in two-week rounds so you always have a working version to test. Publication in the App Store and Google Play adds one to two weeks for the Apple and Google review process.

Why Flutter and not native iOS/Android?

Flutter compiles to native ARM code and gives access to all device features. In most cases, the difference from a fully native app is imperceptible. The benefit: one codebase for both platforms, which is faster to build and cheaper to maintain.

For projects where platform-specific features or maximum performance are critical, we sometimes advise native development. We are honest about which approach fits your project best.

What happens after launch?

After launch we handle maintenance, updates and further development. Each quarter we issue an advisory report with recommended work: OS updates, dependency upgrades, bug fixes and security patches.

You decide which work to commission — no fixed contract, no obligation. Deferring maintenance builds up technical debt, so we advise keeping a small regular maintenance budget.

Can I have an app built for iOS only or Android only?

Yes. With Flutter we build for iOS and Android simultaneously from a single codebase. If you only need an iOS app or only an Android app, that is also possible. A single-platform app is cheaper because less testing is required.

During the intake we advise which approach best fits your target audience and budget.

How do I request a quote for an app?

Schedule a no-obligation introductory call via our contact page. In that call we discuss your idea, the desired features and the timeline. Based on that, we prepare a detailed quote per phase so you know exactly what to expect.

Already have a detailed document or wireframes? Feel free to send them along. The more specific your request, the more accurate our estimate.

What is the difference between an app and a web application?

An app is installed via the App Store or Google Play and runs locally on the device. A web application opens in the browser without installation. The difference comes down to access to device features such as the camera, GPS and push notifications, and the ability to work offline.

For most business use cases we build a Flutter app, because it can use all device features and works offline. If a web application fits your needs better, see our custom web application page.

Can I have an app built with a no-code or low-code tool?

Yes, for simple use cases no-code tools like Bubble or Adalo are an option. They are cheaper to start with, but quickly hit limits: restricted customisation, dependency on a third-party platform and difficulties with complex integrations or high user volumes.

We build custom apps in Flutter. That costs more, but has no ceiling in terms of functionality, design or scalability. If a no-code solution would genuinely serve your needs, we will say so honestly during the introductory call.

Do you build apps for companies outside Rotterdam?

Absolutely. Our office is in Rotterdam on the Westblaak, but we work for clients across the Netherlands. From Amsterdam and The Hague to Eindhoven and Den Bosch: we visit you on-site or collaborate online. Location is never a barrier.
