Our process

Our mobile app development process

A mobile application is the perfect extension of your service or product. As a development agency we guide the entire journey: from technical advice and architecture to development, testing and publication in the app stores.

We build native apps (Swift, Kotlin) and cross-platform apps with Google Flutter. Along the way we apply modern techniques such as push notifications, offline-first architecture and augmented reality.

Want to know what the journey from idea to app store looks like? On our having an app built page we explain the full process step by step. Are you specifically looking for an app developer in Rotterdam? There you will find more information about our team and local approach.

How we work

No surprises, just results. Here is what happens when you contact us.

1

Introduction

Let's grab a coffee. Tell us about your idea and we'll explore the possibilities with you straight away.

2

Analysis

We translate your idea into a technical plan: which technology fits, what the architecture looks like and what it costs.

3

Design

Our designers build a clickable prototype. You see the app before a single line of code is written.

4

Development

We build in short rounds and keep you updated weekly. You see progress, no surprises.

5

Launch

Publication in the App Store and Google Play. After going live we remain available for maintenance and further development.

Android

Android app development

With a market share of 60% in the Netherlands, Android is the most widely used mobile operating system. Our team develops Android apps in Kotlin and Flutter that perform well on both smartphones and tablets.

We handle a smooth publication to the Google Play Store and advise on App Store Optimisation so your app is discoverable by the right audience.

iOS

iOS app development

For iPhone and iPad apps we work with Swift and Flutter. Our iOS developers have extensive experience with Apple guidelines and ensure a smooth review and publication in the App Store.

We also help set up your App Store Connect environment, including screenshots, descriptions and App Store Optimisation, so your app is easy to find.

Veelgestelde vragen

Veelgestelde vragen over App development frequently asked questions

How do you determine which technology best fits my app?

During the intake meeting we assess together which technical choices fit your situation. Flutter is our default when you need both iOS and Android: one codebase, lower cost, faster delivery. For apps requiring deep integration with platform-specific hardware, we sometimes recommend native Swift or Kotlin.

We always explain why we recommend a particular technology, so you can make the trade-off yourself. No hidden agenda: if an off-the-shelf solution fits better than a custom app, we will say so.

What is the difference between a native app and a cross-platform app?

A native app is built specifically for one platform: Swift for iOS, Kotlin for Android. A cross-platform app runs on both platforms from a single shared codebase. With Flutter, our default choice, the code compiles to native machine code, delivering comparable performance to a fully native app.

The advantage of cross-platform is that you only build once for two platforms. That saves on cost and timeline, and ensures iOS and Android always have the same functionality. Native is the choice when you need maximum control over platform-specific features.

How does collaboration work during an app project?

You work with a dedicated team of three developers, no rotations. We work in two-week rounds. After each round we show a working version you can test on your own phone. Feedback is processed in the next round.

Communication runs through short lines: one dedicated contact, no middle layers. Most clients speak with us weekly, some daily. We adapt to what works for you.

What do you need to create a quote for an app?

A good conversation. You do not need a detailed functional design. Tell us which problem you want to solve, for which audience and what the app should roughly do. We ask the right questions to produce a realistic quote per phase from there.

If you already have sketches, wireframes or an existing app you want to replace, bring them along. It helps us reach a good estimate faster, but it is not a requirement.

How do you ensure the app performs well in the stores?

We guide the entire publication process: from app descriptions and screenshots to the final review by Apple and Google. We know the guidelines and what the reviewers look for, so the app gets approved first time. You create the developer accounts yourself, or we publish under The Next App name.

We also advise on App Store Optimisation (ASO): the right title, description, screenshots and keywords to make your app discoverable for your target audience.

Can you take over and further develop an existing app?

We do that regularly. We start with a technical review: how is the code structured, which frameworks are used and where are the bottlenecks? Based on that we give honest advice: continue developing, refactor or rebuild.

Bring as much as possible to the first meeting: repository access, technical documentation and a list of the biggest pain points in the current app. The more we know, the better our advice.
